2010 Iowa Cup Announcement

The Iowa Cup will be back for it’s 5th year with the 2010 edition.

We are excited to announce that the leaders of each individual category, following the first weekend of racing, will receive free entry to the next race (or weekend of racing) in the series (the category they lead, only). Additionally, 2009 winners will receive free entry to the Iowa City Road Race, the first race in the 2010 series. In the case of a weekend of racing, free entry will be determined by scoring after the weekend, not during.

The race promoters have seen the excitement in the chase for the cup across the categories and have stepped up to offer the free entry reward. We really appreciate their support.

The race schedule (to be announced) will either be 11 or 12 races, new this year will be the ability to drop 1 race from scoring, increasing the competition right up to the final race in the series.

Saturday's Iowa State Road Race championship served to tighten the races in every category. The top 3 in every category is down to the wire with the series finale in Des Moines with the winner in all but the cat 3s being determined by that race.

Men Cat 1_2:

Brian Eppen squeeked closer to Sean Walker in his absence and now only 12 points seperate the top 3.

A huge day by ICCC put them 1 pt ahead in the team competition.

Kim Eppen's win moved her within 4 points of the lead.

ICCC retook the lead by 5 points in the women's team competition.

Men Cat 3:

Shrek and Carson Christen pull themselves within striking distance of the win with their 2nd and 3rd place finish on the day. They now sit 13 and 16 points off the lead

Men Cat 4:

Two more riders put themselves in a tie for the lead. Nate Kulborn and Jay Gorsh, Atlas/Ecolips make it a 6 way tie for first.

Men 40+:

Jonathan Nelson scores a 4th place finish to move into sole possession of First Place. Sean Loomis' 2nd place moves him into a close 3rd.

Daniel Shaffer's 2nd place was enough to hold onto the lead, but Chris Eastburn's win moved him within 6 points of the lead.

In a tight competition, Cassandra Kessler moves into the lead with her 2nd place. Dee Mable's win vaults her into first, overtaking former leader Sara Broek by 1 pt.
